Text 31 Dec 24 notes Supernatural Wiki’s Supernatural Top Ten for 2011

supernaturalwiki:

It’s hard to sum up our Show and fandom for the year, which as usual has been full of creativity and crack , but I’ve tried to pick out some of my highlights. From online antics to the Show, from Conventions to charity causes and from fanfic to webseries!

1. Only in Supernatural

In true Supernatural style, 2011 started with a brotherly hug and ended with a death. The year saw the show go from the dark, taut, noir of season 6, to the high emotion, grindhouse thrill ride of Season 7.

Supernatural continued pushing the boundaries not only of the genre but of TV. It’s a horror show full of gore but with complex characterisation and relationship dynamics rare even in acclaimed TV dramas. It has trashed the fourth wall until no one can remember where it was, and continues to provide a meta commentary on TV, pop culture and fandom.

Rather than recap my favourite episodes or most loved goriest scenes, I thought I’d list some of the things that we love at the Super Wiki – the obscure and trivial, the details included in the show that the dedicated fan adores:

I volunteered at the Salvation Army center around here a couple years ago, helping families pick out toys. It was really fun and I thought I was doing a good thing until two men came in. They were in poor shape, they wore a lot of layers and their jackets and pants had dirt and dust on them. I think they had been sleeping outside. They were coming in to get food from the kitchen, and one of the staff members took them to another room that wasn’t the kitchen. After a while, they were both escorted out of the building. I learned later that day they were kicked out because the staff speculated they were a gay couple and didn’t want to cater to those kind of people.
I can’t even look at the bellringers without being ashamed of them. They help a lot of people, but I don’t want to contribute to a group that still considers homosexuality to be condemnatory.

Red Cross, guys.

Obviously discrimination like that SUCKS SHIT but I want to make two points:
1. While the homophobia is still present in the Australian branch I believe (from anecdotal evidence) there’s a lot less stuff like this happening here. All the stories of hard discrimination I’ve heard have originated from the USA (as opposed to soft discrimination like “I think being queer is wrong but I’ll still help out LGBT folks” which seems to happen here).
2. No one else is actually providing the services the Salvos do, or to the extent they do it, at least not in Australia, even more specifically Victoria. Ideally these services should be provided by a secular organisation (or god forbid, the government) but it’s not. My experience with the Salvos is through the criminal justice system which is already trying to put bandaid solutions to incredibly complex problems in society (socioeconomic status, mental health, the treatment of indigenous communities, take your pick). We’re sandbagging against a flood as it where.
The Salvos are extra sandbags and bandaids we need. Yes, in an ideal world we wouldn’t need to work with bigots, but in the meantime we have to do something about being knee deep in this stuff. We need as many hands as we can.
I’m not saying that you should or shouldn’t give money to the Salvos - that’s a choice that’s entirely up to you. I’m just trying to add some more depth to this conversation.

As a lesbian I can tell you that when you’re the target of homophobia you don’t really care whether it’s “hard”or “soft” discrimination. It’s all discrimination. Simple solution is to support charities that don’t hate people.

I choose this photoset because I really love the Jensen soul-singer [or jazz, I don’t know anymore XD]

Okay guys, this is a farewell post. If you seeing this I’m probably dead right now. I just want to say thank you for the kindness during this whole year. I have been fighting against a inoperable brain tumor through the last 3 years and exactly 3 days ago the pain became excruciating and I went to the hospital, where the doctors said that they could make me comfortable during a few days. I’ve been living more than they expected, so they said I could die anytime.

I never said that before because I didn’t want you clogging my askbox saying things I didn’t want to read, like “you’ll be fine”, “you’re stronger than this” and stuff.

Fabio came to my home during the holidays, because he is my best friend forever and I truly love him. During all this time he made my life much better. That’s why I asked him to keep this blog active, reblogging Supernatural stuff. You all are probably thinking: “that’s why he was here before”, and yeah, it’s true. Fabio didn’t want to do it, but I tried so hard to convince him and then he gave up. So guys, be nice with him. (:

I have to say thank you to Erica, who started to talk to me a few months ago, always so kind and cute. Thank you for everything, sweetie. The same to Julia, who is so nice, too. And sorry. When you both asked me for a picture of mine, I couldn’t send to you, because I lost my hair about a year ago and I’m so ugly. So, I sent to you a pic of my friend, Fabio. I’m totally ashamed right now, but I couldn’t leave without saying the truth. But I regret nothing, because I don’t wanna make you remember my sick face. At least, now you know why I always refused to talk using webcam.

I’ll never have words to describe how good you were in my life.

And Willow, thank you. You was so important in my last days, you have no idea.

Now, I have something else to ask: if someday any of you guys meet Jensen Ackles in person, please, let him know that I love him so much it hurts, that I wish him the best, because he deserves it. And please, watch Supernatural. This show was the most important thing that happened in my life. Supernatural made me cry, laugh, scream out loud… Sometimes it made me depressed, and sometimes it turned me on, because, with cancer or not, I’m still a gay man. Anyway, thank you.

I can’t write anymore. I guess I have nothing left to say. And Julie [or Jules, sorry], Fabio told me about your fanfiction on livejournal. He always talked to you using my tumblr account, because he doesn’t have one. Wish I could have had time to read it, I’m pretty sure it’s awesome, just the way Fabio talked about.

Anyway, it could take some time until Fabio starts to post something new, so please, don’t unfollow him. XD

And guys, believe. You can do whatever you want. Just believe. If you can’t handle the depression, ask for help. Don’t give up. Just DON’T GIVE UP.

Thank You.

Johnnanthan Burcovick.

Oh fuck.

Don’t say read fanfiction.

Don’t say gay porn.

Don’t say role play online.

Don’t say lulz at memes.

Don’t say gay porn.

Don’t say obsess over fictional characters.

Don’t say puzzles.

Don’t say gay porn.

Do. Not. Say. Gay. Porn.

Maybe you should stop hanging out with repressed homophobic assholes who think there is something wrong with gay porn.

The best part about being a fatty is not needing implants! I loves my size G boobies!
(mod note: Thanks for the submission! Yes, some of us fat people with big breasts love them, and remember folks: no one “needs” implants. Love!)

Think before you blog - it’s Breast Cancer Month which is the very reason many women do have breast implants.  Stigmatising women who have implants FOR ANY REASON is just oppressing women.

Text 17 Sep 16 notes The French Mistake Pop Up trivia

supernaturalwiki:

The Season 6 Blu-Ray had a special feature - pop-up boxes on the 6.15 The French Mistake containing trivia relating to the episode - particularly to point out what was real and what was fiction in the episode.

For much more trivia see the episode entry for 6.15 The French Mistake

All the pop-up trivia notes are transcribed under the cut.

Call me shallow but my favourite one is probably the statement that Jared and Jensen are actually referred to as “the boys” by the crew.
